BAT ISLANDS
MURCIÉLAGO
Advanced Divers Only

The Bat Islands (Islas Murciélago)
are a remote archipelago in northwestern Costa Rica, part of the Santa Rosa National Park and the Guanacaste Conservation Area. The archipelago is particularly renowned among divers for the rare opportunity to encounter bull sharks in their natural
habitat, completely free from baiting or feeding.
The best months for diving on Bat Island are usually from May to November, when the weather is ideal for exploring underwater. Bull sharks and other big marine creatures are more likely to be encountered around this time since they are very active.

The Bat Islands are also seasonally home to the giant oceanic manta ray, a vulnerable species frequently seen between May and August. Watching them move in groups while filtering plankton is a spiritual experience.
